Wildlife

 The country’s forests have been shrinking for decades as a result of logging, mining, and farming activities. Between the mid-20th century and the early 21st century, the forestland was reduced by more than half. The islands have thousands of species of flowering plants and ferns, including extremely rare orchids. This country has more than 200 species of mammals, including a species of small water buffalo, and more than 50 species of bats. Also, there are many fossil remains of elephants and hundreds of species of birds.
