Some four-fifths of Filipinos profess Roman Catholicism, while Christianity constitutes one-tenth of the population. Islam was well established in the Sulu Archipelago and Mindanao. The muslim communities represent 5 percent of the population and just a small number of Filipinos practice Buddhism and other locar religions. The indigenous church has a smaller but significant following, while the Philippine Independent Church has millions of members.
